Privacy Policy

Last updated: January 2025

Your Privacy Matters

Dormu ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and services. This policy is designed to comply with Apple App Store, Google Play Store, and applicable privacy regulations.

Important: Dormu is a safety monitoring application, not a medical device. It is designed to assist with elderly care and safety awareness but should not be relied upon as the sole means of ensuring someone's safety or health.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Personal Information You Provide

  • Contact Information: Phone number (required for registration), email address, name
  • Account Credentials: Phone number, verification codes (OTP)
  • Profile Information: Display name, profile photos (optional)
  • Family Network: Phone numbers and names of family members you designate for safety alerts

1.2 Location Data

  • Precise Location: We collect your device's precise GPS coordinates when monitoring is active
  • Background Location: When you enable monitoring sessions, we continue tracking your location even when the app is closed or in the background
  • Safe Zone Data: Geographic coordinates of areas you designate as "safe zones"
  • Movement History: Historical location data during active monitoring sessions

Why we need this: Location data is essential for detecting when you move outside safe zones and triggering safety alerts to your designated family members. Without continuous location access, the core safety monitoring features cannot function.

1.3 Device Information

  • Device Identifiers:
    • iOS: identifierForVendor (IDFV)
    • Android: Android ID
  • Device Model & OS: Device manufacturer, model name, operating system version
  • App Version: App version number and build number
  • Device Type: Whether device is a smartphone or tablet, physical device or emulator

Why we need this: Device information is used solely for device registration, enabling family members to identify which device triggered an alert (e.g., "Mom's iPhone 14"), and for technical support. We do NOT use device identifiers for advertising or cross-app tracking.

1.4 Motion & Sensor Data

  • Motion Sensors: Accelerometer and gyroscope data to detect movement patterns
  • Activity Recognition: Detection of unusual movement or immobility
  • Battery Status: Battery level and charging status

Why we need this: Motion data helps detect unusual movement patterns or potential falls. Battery status helps optimize background monitoring to prevent excessive drain.

1.5 Bluetooth Information

  • Bluetooth Status: Whether Bluetooth is enabled (used to improve location accuracy)

Why we need this: Bluetooth can improve indoor location accuracy for more precise safe zone monitoring.

1.6 Usage & Interaction Data

  • Monitoring Sessions: When you start/stop monitoring, duration, settings
  • Alert Events: When alerts are triggered, response times, alert confirmations
  • Feature Usage: Which app features you use and when
  • SOS Events: Emergency button usage and response

Why we need this: This helps us understand app functionality, improve user experience, and provide support when issues occur.

1.7 Push Notification Tokens

  • FCM Tokens (Firebase Cloud Messaging): Unique tokens to deliver push notifications to your device

Why we need this: Essential for sending safety alerts, SOS notifications, and alert confirmations when monitoring events occur.

3. Information Sharing and Disclosure

The primary purpose of Dormu is to share safety information with your designated family members. When you add family members to your safety network, they can see:

  • Your location during active monitoring sessions (if location sharing is enabled)
  • Alert notifications when you move outside safe zones
  • Your device information (device name/model)
  • Monitoring session status (active/inactive)
  • Alert history and responses

You control this: You choose which family members to add, and you can adjust location sharing precision or disable location sharing entirely while still receiving alerts.

3.2 Service Providers

We work with trusted third-party service providers who help us operate our services:

  • Firebase (Google): Cloud messaging for push notifications, authentication services
  • SMS Gateway Providers: To send SMS alerts to family members
